This week on the Frotcast, we've got Brendan and Matt Lieb in the Frotquarters, with "Film Critic" author Laremy Legel joining us via Skype.

We open the show talking about how we're going to talk about The Raid, and the difference between Silat and Muay Thai. Matt Lieb talks about his bar fighting experiences (mostly theoretical) and that somehow leads us into a discussion of Pumping Iron, and Brendan's dead-on Lou Ferrigno impression. Lou Ferrigno's gullibility leads us into a discussion of sales tactics and pick-up tactics aimed at the dumbest people around that just end up working because so many people are so dumb. That somehow leads us to the couple who took professional photos with their stillborn baby, which naturally leads to some thoroughly dark dead baby humor. We talk some about The Raid remake, Taylor Kitcsh, Oliver Stone, and Kid Rock's strangely well-written letter in the Juggalo sexual harassment lawsuit case. Eventually we get to the famous troll article "Idiocracy is a Cruel Movie And You Should Be Ashamed For Liking It," which makes everyone groan lots.

After that, we bring on Laremy, and we talk about The Raid, and Kenneth Turan's LA Times piece, "Kenneith Turan takes a critic's lonely stand on 'Boyhood.'" That of course leads us to discuss some of the courageous stands that *we* have taken in film criticism. I don't want to use the word "hero," but...

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

This week on the Frotcast, we are joined by author/ podcaster/ writer/ Madden Football junkie Laremy Legel of Film.com. Before blooping him in, we talk about House of Cards and binge watching TV, Brendan's hatred of Homeland, read some listener Frotcast fan fiction and episode 5 of True Detective. Then we bring Laremy on, first so he can defend and explain his Madden obsession.  Then we talk about the Robocop remake, which Bret hated and Ben liked (shocking). We unfortunately lost Bret toward the end (apologies for the technical difficulties) and finish up talking about Laremy's trip to Nawlins.

Thanks for listening.

Frot on and Frotstrong!

This week on the Frotcast, Vince is live from Berlin so we bloop him in at the beginning of the show. We all put on our best German accents and hear what has been happening at the film festival. Once Vince falls asleep, Bret and Brendan tell us what music they have been listening to before we get into the awesomeness that was Episode 4 of True Detective. Including the trackingest tracking shot of all time. This week we all saw the documentary 12 O’Clock Boys- a documentary about a street motorcycle group in Baltimore. Everyone liked it a lot for a variety of reasons. If nothing else, watch it for the slow motion wheelie scenes. We finish up with some talk about the Olympics and Sochi. Thanks for listening. Frot on and FROTSTRONG.

What is up Frotcast Fans,

It is your favorite cancer patient Ben. Unfortunately, I did not join the crew for this Frotcast. The chemo has me feeling pretty crappy. Fear not- Vince, Bret and Burnsy held it down. Also- I am getting through this chemo crap, just not the most fun thing I have ever done. Thank you all for the support, kind words and concern. The internet love warms this cold Jew's heart (with flakes of gold).

I hope to return next week. Until then, enjoy this week's show. I am not quite sure what happened except that Vince blooped in Burnsy and Bret. Brendan was busy buying a house with a bidet in it.

Also, people ask how they can support the Frocast. If you are generous enough to send us some of your hard earned sheckles, we would be honored to receive them. Just go to http://frotcast.com/shop/frotcast-subscription/ and choose the amount ($1, $4, or $10) you would like to subscribe for. It will set you up with recurring billing every month through PayPal, and of course you can cancel at anytime.

For all Whoop Dreams related info, go to www.whoopdreams.com. Mike from Tall Tale Productions is currently on a project in Africa, and we hope to have some edited footage when he returns next month.

Don't forget to donate at least 100 clicks a day to www.Filmdrunk.com. Vince is always tearing his blogging slacks. Fixing those things ain't cheap.

As always- Frot On and Frotstrong,

Ben

We answer a couple of your email questions, including the guy who tells us what it's like living next to Guy Fieri, and a question about whether teams like the Redskins should change their name. We talk about the girl on a quest to make 300 sandwiches for her loser boyfriend, and whether we were disappointed about Horse E-Books, and finish things off with a truncated version of the Name Draft. To be continued....

Bit of a departure from your usual Frotcast this week, as Ben had to fly straight from Chicago to Seattle for a work retreat, and he had the mixers and mics in his bag. So we couldn't record a normal 'cast (other than the one we already recorded at The Gathering that you can buy), but Matt Lieb, Ben, and I did get to talk to comedian Dante Nero after his set at The Gathering over the weekend for 40 minutes or so. It's an iPhone recording, so the quality isn't amazing, but we had a pretty great conversation about trying to do comedy at The Gathering, comedy in general, and calling out joke thieves.

Check out our live reports from The Gathering: http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2013/08/gathering-of-the-juggalos-tour-diary-day-two

This week on the Frotcast, our guests include Patrick Schumacker, Cougar Town writer and Justin Halpern's writing partner, and SF comedian Matt Louv, the museum of comedy. We talk about Tarantino girlfriend/plagiarist Lianne Spiderbaby and whether she's actually a human spambot. We discuss Pacific Rim, the Dzhokar Tsarnaev Rolling Stone cover, and Pat introduces a new topic, asinine movie arguments we've had with people. Most importantly, we coin the phrase "Sharknados are a fishious cyclone." Enjoy.

This week on the Frotcast, we welcome two of my favorite San Francisco comedians, Matt Lieb and Pam Benjamin, two folks who are both hilarious and total open books. Pam tells us about all the sex she's been having, and we wonder what girls' deal is, and why they be crazy and why women be shoppin' etc. We talk about the infamous video of the Hawthorne police shooting the guy's dog and how GODDAMN MAD THAT STORY MAKES ME. UGH. Then we bloop in Laremy Legel of Film.com via Skype, who tells us all about The Lone Ranger and how terrible it was. Bret saw Man of Steel, so we discuss that. Then we talk about a lot of stuff and sh*t gets super duper real. Super.

Those Hawthorne cops can go die.

This week on the Frotcast, we had a ton of fun. Seriously, you should listen to this one. Filling in for Brendan and Ben, SF comedians Juan Medina and Matt Lieb join us in the Frotquarters for a 'cast that runs the gamut from silly to serious, as we discuss Juan's second life as a cab driver, the hypocrisy of the Paula Deen controversy, Stephan Jenkins, the pitfalls of self-congratulatory comedy, Matt Lieb's lonely lonely single life, and Upstream Color. Justin Halpern bloops in for a segment called 'Tweets from My Sick Ride,' involving satisfied tweets from Lexus and Porsche owners, which is quickly interrupted by hilarious dog and crying baby. Later on, Bret has some pretty serious feelings about Upstream Color. Good times, good times. For more movie news you can make fun of, check out FilmDrunk.com.

Recording early this week due to scheduling issues, perhaps too early, some might say, this week's Frotcast features San Francisco comedy legends Matt Lieb AND Matt Louv. We talk about Matt Lieb, and how lonely he is, and then get into a discussion about what films we'd like to watch in Punch-o-vision, which would allow the viewer to punch the characters. After that, we talk about some other stuff, and we start coming up with ska-themed movies for some reason, like Ska-face. Yeah.
